Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 of the 7 Days Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Trekking: Transfer to Volcanoes

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or pick up from your hotel, you will be welcomed by your driver guide and begin your journey with a Kigali city tour. Visit some of Rwanda’s important historical and cultural sites including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Nyamata Church, local markets, and other attractions that provide insight into Rwanda’s history and vibrant culture.

After the city tour, continue with a scenic drive northwards to Volcanoes National Park. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of Rwanda’s rolling hills and the magnificent Virunga Mountains before arriving at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers before beginning your first gorilla trekking adventure. Enter the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family.

Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing their behaviors, taking photographs, and watching them feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat.

After the trek, return to the lodge for relaxation. In the evening, enjoy a cultural or community walk to nearby villages where you can interact with local communities and learn about traditional Rwandan customs and way of life.

After breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park for an exciting golden monkey trekking experience. These playful and endangered primates are known for their energetic movements through the bamboo forests and provide excellent photography opportunities.

After the trekking activity, proceed with your cross-border journey into Uganda and travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population. Arrive at your lodge and relax as you prepare for your second gorilla trekking experience.

Wake up early for breakfast and proceed to the park headquarters for another briefing before entering the ancient rainforest of Bwindi in search of a different gorilla family. This second gorilla encounter allows you to appreciate the unique behaviors and social structures of these magnificent primates.

After spending one memorable hour with the gorillas, return from the forest and begin your transfer to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its rare tree-climbing lions and beautiful savannah landscapes.

Begin the day with a morning game drive in the Ishasha sector, where you will search for the famous tree-climbing lions, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and other wildlife species found in the area.

After the game drive, continue your journey northwards through Queen Elizabeth National Park to the Kazinga Channel for an unforgettable boat cruise. This scenic waterway offers excellent opportunities to view hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and numerous bird species along the shores.

After breakfast, depart for Kibale Forest National Park, one of Africa’s most important primate habitats and the best place for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda.
